New Year's Eve on Sydney Harbour draws over a million people to perspective around the foreshore each year, and the sheer scale of the crowd leaves behind a volume of Sydney Rubbish that council and event teams need to clear within hours instead of days. Food packaging, beverage containers and general litter build up throughout parks, headlands and walkways throughout the night, and the operation to have the harbour foreshore looking presentable once again by the following morning is Sydney Rubbish one of the biggest collaborated clean-up efforts the city carries out all year. Occasion organisers who plan waste management well ahead of the big night, rather than treating it as an afterthought once the fireworks finish, have the ability to keep this iconic celebration from leaving a lasting mess on a few of the city's most photographed public areas.
